Agniveer (Indian Air Force)

Agniveervayu is a four-year IAF service role rather than a conventional permanent airman appointment. On enrolment, personnel receive military training based on IAF requirements and may be assigned any duty in organisational interest at the IAF’s discretion. The precise trade, technical exposure and daily duties therefore depend on service requirements rather than the candidate’s examination stream alone.

The broader Agnipath framework describes the service period as building military skills and experience, discipline, fitness, leadership and courage. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship describes Agniveer service as comprising basic military training, trade training, security training, and service/on-the-job training.

The direct route is through an IAF Agniveervayu intake notification and the designated online recruitment portal. The cited Intake 02/2027 notification invited unmarried Indian male and female candidates, with the number and employability of female candidates determined by service requirements. Its age, education, medical and domicile rules are intake-specific and should be checked afresh in the live notification.

For Intake 02/2027, selection began with an online Phase-I objective test. Science candidates were tested in Physics, Mathematics and English; other-than-science candidates were tested in English plus Reasoning and General Awareness. Shortlisted candidates proceeded to Phase II, subject to document verification and the remaining prescribed selection and medical processes.

For Agniveers with the required prior qualification, IGNOU’s defence-personnel scheme offers applied-skills bachelor’s programmes. The programmes combine discipline coursework with credits for Armed Forces’ in-service skill education, creating a route to complete a degree while serving.

Agniveervayu serve within the IAF under the Air Force Act, 1950. The cited recruitment notice states that personnel must be physically and mentally fit to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain, reflecting the role’s mobility and operational demands.

The four-year engagement has service-specific conditions. The cited Intake 02/2027 notice specifies 30 days of annual leave per year, with sick leave based on medical advice; it also says grant of leave is subject to IAF exigencies. Compensation should be read from the intake-specific notification. For Intake 02/2027, the customised monthly package was listed as ₹30,000, ₹33,000, ₹36,500 and ₹40,000 for years 1 through 4 respectively. The notice describes a 70% in-hand component and a 30% individual contribution to the Agniveer Corpus Fund, matched by the Government; applicable risk and hardship, dress and travel allowances, plus ration, clothing, accommodation and LTC, are governed by prevailing IAF rules.

The same notice estimates a ₹10.04 lakh Seva Nidhi package after four years before interest, based on the stated corpus contributions. It explicitly states no entitlement to gratuity or pensionary benefits. Applicants should treat figures as dated context: future notifications, interest rates, tax rules and allowance eligibility may differ.
