The operative IGNOU defence portal for the July 2026 admission cycle is explicit: it is dedicated exclusively to Agniveers of the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. It says applications from anyone outside those groups will be cancelled. Accordingly, the node should be interpreted primarily as an Agniveer scheme, even though an earlier Ministry of Education parliamentary answer described the wider policy as being for eligible Defence Forces personnel including Agniveers.

Academic entry requirements vary by programme. BAAPS and BCOMAPS show 10+2 or equivalent, while BSCAPS requires 10+2 with Science subjects. The admission workflow also calls for a 10th certificate, a 10+2/equivalent certificate, and a permission letter issued by the Commanding Officer (CO), alongside the applicant’s photograph and signature. Eligibility must therefore be checked against both the selected degree code and service authorization before applying.

• Do not treat the dedicated portal as an admission route for CAPF constables, ordinary civilian applicants, permanent airmen/sailors, or former service personnel unless IGNOU formally changes the portal’s eligibility statement.
• For science-oriented progression, note the additional 10+2 Science-subject requirement displayed for BSCAPS.
• A valid APAAR ID is required by the July 2026 defence portal before application.

IGNOU currently displays all five available Agniveer programmes as three-year degrees delivered through Open Distance Learning (ODL). For the original BAAS launch, IGNOU recorded a minimum duration of three years and a maximum of six years. Since operational rules can differ by programme code and admission cycle, the selected programme page and current information bulletin should be treated as controlling.

The structure is designed to run alongside service: half of the 120-credit degree is the IGNOU academic component and half is recognised in-service skill education. The in-service component is not an automatic credit for any unrelated training; it depends on Defence-Service skill courses approved within the scheme.

The central feature is a 120-credit, 50:50 design: 60 credits are delivered by IGNOU and 60 credits are credited from Defence-Service skill education. IGNOU describes the recognised service learning as NSQF-aligned skill training at level 4.5 and above, while the Ministry of Education stated that both technical and non-technical in-service training could account for up to 50% of the degree credits.

The academic component differs by selected pathway. The five currently available options cover Arts (Applied Skills), Commerce (Applied Skills), Science (Applied Skills), Tourism Management, and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The BAAS launch structure illustrates the academic side: discipline-specific study, ability-enhancement courses such as Environmental Studies and communication, and skill-enhancement courses are combined with the Defence skill-credit component.

A Ministry of Education answer to Parliament stated that the completed bachelor’s degree would be equivalent to a similar conventional course recognised by UGC and AICTE, provided the learner successfully completes the prescribed programme requirements. That statement is about the completed award; it does not remove the need to satisfy the subject, percentage, age, medical, or other conditions of a later university or recruitment process.

Apply through IGNOU’s separate Defence/Agniveer portal rather than the ordinary IGNOU ODL portal. The portal’s July 2026 instructions require the applicant to register with their own email address and mobile number, then upload original-document scans including 10th and 10+2 certificates and a CO-issued permission letter. Payment methods listed are credit card, debit card and net banking.

The portal displayed July 15, 2026 as the last date for the July 2026 cycle. As of the requested review date of July 19, 2026, that displayed deadline has passed. This is time-sensitive: applicants should use the portal, not this guide, to determine whether IGNOU has issued an extension, opened a subsequent cycle, or revised programme availability.

Fees should be confirmed for the exact programme code at application. The July 2026 portal shows different annual tuition figures across programmes, and adds applicable registration and development fees. It also says registration fees are non-refundable and describes cancellation/refund deductions under University rules.

The live July 2026 IGNOU defence portal lists BAAPS at ₹4,700 per year, BCOMAPS at ₹4,500 per year, and BSCAPS at ₹6,200 per year. Each listing adds registration and development fees as applicable. These are portal-listed annual programme fees, not a guaranteed total cost for every learner or pathway.

Because fee schedules, administrative charges, material options, and refund rules can change by cycle, candidates should confirm the current amount in the chosen programme’s portal page immediately before application. IGNOU’s portal also publishes its cancellation/refund rules, including that the registration fee is non-refundable.

On successful completion, the scheme leads to a bachelor’s degree. The Ministry of Education’s parliamentary response said the completed degree is equivalent to a similar conventional course recognised by UGC and AICTE. This creates a basis to pursue postgraduate study such as an MA or to apply to graduate-entry examinations, but admission is never automatic: the receiving university, examination body, recruiter, and the specific chosen programme determine the final eligibility.

For the child routes in this node, treat the degree as a foundation and verify the current notification: MA and CUET-PG admissions may impose subject-specific and university-specific conditions; CAT applies its own admission-test and IIM selection rules; SSC CGL post qualifications vary; and AFCAT, CDS, and Civil Services each have distinct age, nationality, physical/medical, subject and branch requirements. For example, the UPSC CDS notice requires a recognised-university degree for IMA and Officers’ Training Academy, but requires engineering for the Indian Naval Academy and a degree with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level, or engineering, for the Air Force Academy.

Serving personnel should also obtain any required service permission or NOC before applying to external examinations. UPSC’s CDS notice specifically requires Armed Forces candidates to inform their Commanding Officer and provide an NOC at the SSB stage.

• Possible entrance/recruitment routes: CUET-PG, CAT, SSC CGL, AFCAT, UPSC CDS and UPSC Civil Services Examination, subject to the relevant current notification.
