Eligibility: check the university’s exact subject rule
B.Tech Dairy Technology eligibility is not completely uniform across India. The ICAR CUET (ICAR-UG) 2025 bulletin required applicants to have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination after 12 years of study, with at least three core subjects among Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Agriculture/Inter-Agriculture. It also set aggregate-mark thresholds of 50% for General, OBC (NCL), UPS and EWS categories and 40% for SC, ST, Third Gender and PwBD categories for the ICAR examination route.
An applicant must then meet the individual university’s programme rule. For example, ICAR-NDRI’s 2025–26 bulletin accepted Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, Chemistry, Biology, plus English, and specified 50% aggregate marks, with 40% for SC/ST and PH candidates. The ICAR’s university-wise list shows that other Dairy Technology institutions used differing combinations and conditions. Candidates should therefore treat the current year’s university prospectus and ICAR/NTA bulletin—not a generic eligibility summary—as controlling.
- A Class 12 science background is essential; confirm whether the target institution accepts PCM, PCB, PCMB, Agriculture, and/or requires English.
- Confirm institution-specific age, domicile, medical/physical, category-certificate, and document-verification conditions before registering.

Duration and training structure
The standard B.Tech Dairy Technology structure is four years across eight semesters. ICAR-NDRI states that its academic year contains two semesters and that the B.Tech programme must ordinarily be completed within a maximum of seven years.
The degree is designed to combine classroom, laboratory and plant exposure. ICAR-NDRI’s 2025–26 bulletin makes a six-month internship compulsory and places in-plant training in the seventh and eighth semesters. At LUVAS, the published regulations similarly provide for industry work experience in a dairy factory or industry, rural dairy work experience, and experiential learning.

ICAR’s minimum standards for Dairy Technology identify the core academic areas as Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Chemistry, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Trade and Dairy Business Management, supported by a pilot dairy/business-process-development facility.
A representative current course list published by ICAR-NDRI includes market milk; traditional Indian dairy products; fat-rich products; cheese; ice cream and frozen desserts; dairy by-products; packaging; condensed and dried milks; sensory evaluation; dairy-plant management; waste disposal and pollution abatement; rural dairy work experience; experiential learning; and in-plant training. LUVAS’s published curriculum also evidences engineering content such as fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat and mass transfer, refrigeration, dairy process engineering, instrumentation, process control and plant design/layout.
This means the degree is not limited to making dairy products: students work with processing operations, equipment, hygiene and quality control, packaging, product evaluation, resource efficiency, waste management and commercial/management considerations.

Admission through ICAR-linked counselling and university routes
For the ICAR agricultural-university system, the documented 2025–26 route was CUET (ICAR-UG), conducted by the National Testing Agency, followed by ICAR online counselling and seat allotment based on merit rank, preferences and eligibility. ICAR-NDRI specifically stated that candidates seeking its B.Tech programmes had to opt for the institute during the CUET counselling process.
B.Tech Dairy Technology is listed among the four-year professional bachelor programmes available through CUET (ICAR-UG) in the 2025 bulletin. The same bulletin lists participating universities and their Dairy Technology seat information and conditions; the final available seat count was stated to be displayed at the time of online counselling. This makes annual verification important: participating institutions, seats, test-subject requirements, application windows and counselling schedules may change.
The node’s parent label “ICAR AIEEA” reflects the older ICAR entrance-examination naming commonly used in education discussions. For the cited 2025–26 undergraduate cycle, the official route was labelled CUET (ICAR-UG), while ICAR continued to use AIEEA (PG) for postgraduate admissions.

These are capability-aligned pathways rather than guaranteed job titles: ICAR-NDRI describes the degree as training in processing, product quality control and dairy-processing equipment, and its placement cell describes a four-year programme with practical coursework and six months of dairy-plant training. An ICAR-NDRI recruitment notice also listed B.Tech Dairy Technology among acceptable qualifications for young-professional work in milk-quality and safety laboratory sections.
Further study is a principal route. ICAR-NDRI offers postgraduate Dairy Technology and related Dairying disciplines, and its published doctoral eligibility includes a four-year B.Tech degree in Dairy Technology/Dairy Engineering or specified related fields for Ph.D. Dairy Technology. ICAR’s AIEEA (PG) is the national examination route associated with postgraduate agricultural education; applicants should use the current NTA/ICAR notice and the target programme’s discipline eligibility rather than relying on an older syllabus or bulletin.
Management and entrepreneurship are additional directions. The undergraduate curriculum can include entrepreneurship, business management and industrial consultancy, while a CAT-based MBA route is academically possible because MBA admissions commonly require a recognised bachelor’s degree; individual business schools impose their own score, marks, work-experience and selection requirements. GATE eligibility and accepted paper/discipline requirements also need to be checked against the current official GATE information brochure and the receiving institution’s M.Tech rules.
