ICAR AIEEA PG

ICAR AIEEA (PG) is the national entrance route used for postgraduate admissions under the ICAR–Agricultural University system. For the 2026–27 cycle, the official bulletin describes admission through ICAR All India Quota seats at participating agricultural universities and institutes; the final university- and subject-wise seat availability is published for counselling.

The examination covers agricultural and allied disciplines rather than a single degree title. Its 2026 subject structure included groups such as horticulture, forestry, agricultural engineering and technology, community science, fisheries science, dairy science, dairy technology, food science technology, agri-business management, and water science and technology. For a fisheries graduate, the Fisheries Science group is the relevant route for participating universities’ fisheries master’s offerings, whose award title may differ by institution.

• NTA’s role includes candidate registration, test conduct, answer-key challenges, result declaration, and transfer of the resulting data to ICAR.
• Candidates take one major subject-group test aligned with their undergraduate discipline; qualifying sub-subject preferences are made later in ICAR online counselling.

Eligibility has two layers: a candidate must meet the examination rules and must also satisfy the specific programme and admitting university’s requirements. In the 2026 bulletin, Indian nationals were required to meet both; merely applying, appearing, or qualifying did not itself establish admission eligibility.

The normal degree-duration rule for the ICAR-AU system was a four-/six-year bachelor’s programme after 10+2 or a five-/five-and-a-half-year B.V.Sc. & A.H. programme. Three-year bachelor’s graduates were generally not eligible in ICAR agricultural universities, with limited course-specific exceptions at ICAR deemed universities named in the bulletin. The relevant subject table must be checked before applying: for example, fisheries, dairy technology, food technology, forestry, horticulture, and community science graduates have different eligible subject pathways.

For 2026, the general minimum OGPA was 6.60/10 for General, OBC, UPS, and EWS candidates, or 5.60/10 for SC/ST/PwBD/Third Gender candidates, with equivalent cut-offs listed for other grading scales. Where grades were not awarded, the bulletin also specifies percentage-based standards. University-specific equivalence, additional conditions, and document verification remain decisive at admission.

• Choose a major subject group only after matching the undergraduate degree against the subject-specific eligibility table.
• Confirm that the undergraduate institution and degree will be accepted by the admitting university; the bulletin states that degree equivalence is decided by that university.
• Treat all eligibility, age, seat, and programme exceptions shown in the current year’s bulletin and counselling material as controlling.

In 2026, AIEEA (PG) used one computer-based, objective multiple-choice paper in English. It contained 120 questions to be completed in two hours. The scoring scheme was +4 for each correct answer, −1 for each incorrect answer, and no marks for a question left unattempted.

ICAR prepares an overall merit/rank list separately for each major subject. In a tied score, the 2026 rules placed the candidate with fewer negative marks higher; further tie-breaks used age and then Class XII percentage/CGPA.

• Mode: computer-based test (CBT).
• Questions: 120 MCQs; four options are shown for each question in the CBT interface.
• Medium: English only.
• Merit is subject-group-specific, so candidates should select their examination group carefully.

The application is online through the NTA ICAR examination portal. The 2026 process required candidates to register and receive an application number, complete personal, educational, programme and examination-city details, upload the required images/documents, pay the fee online, and save the confirmation page. NTA stated that applications submitted in another mode would not be accepted.

For the 2026 cycle, online applications were accepted from May 8 through June 7, 2026; the correction window was June 9–10, and the examination was held on July 4, 2026. These dates have passed and should not be used as a future-cycle deadline. The next cycle’s bulletin and notices on the NTA/ICAR portals are the authoritative source for new dates, fees, document specifications, and correction rules.

After the result, only candidates declared eligible for registration and choice filling by ICAR can participate in online counselling. Allocation of the subject and agricultural university follows that counselling process, and the bulletin states that admission and scholarships are granted through the ICAR counselling route.

• Use one application only, a personal active email address and mobile number, and retain the application number and confirmation page.
• Upload the candidate’s own live photograph, scanned photograph, signature, and applicable PwD/PwBD documentation in the prescribed format.
• Read the current bulletin before payment: application fees, bank/payment-gateway charges, deadlines, and allowed correction fields may change by cycle.

Start by selecting the correct major subject group from the official eligibility table, then prepare against ICAR’s prescribed syllabus for that group. This avoids a common strategic error: studying broadly for a desired master’s specialisation while choosing an examination group that is not compatible with the undergraduate qualification.

Use timed CBT practice that reproduces the official constraints: 120 questions in 120 minutes and negative marking. Because an incorrect response carries a one-mark deduction, build an attempt strategy that distinguishes high-confidence answers from guesses. This is preparation advice inferred from the published scoring scheme, not an official cut-off or attempt target.

Before the examination, use the NTA bulletin’s CBT instructions to familiarise yourself with the on-screen question palette, review marking, and submission flow. Monitor the official NTA portal for admit-card, city-intimation, answer-key, and result notices.

• Download and map every syllabus topic to undergraduate notes, standard texts, and topic-wise question practice.
• Run full-length two-hour mocks and review errors by topic as well as by avoidable negative marks.
• Keep official eligibility, syllabus, and counselling notices separate from coaching or social-media guidance; the official bulletin governs admission.

AIEEA (PG) results are issued as an overall merit rank in the candidate’s major subject for candidates declared eligible for counselling choice filling. A rank does not by itself allocate a seat: candidates must complete ICAR online counselling, where eligible candidates are considered for subject and university allocation.

For 2026, the bulletin stated that the prior academic year had 4,883 ICAR All India Quota PG seats across relevant programmes, while also making clear that the final current-cycle seat count would be displayed at counselling. Seat availability is therefore variable by cycle, university, and sub-subject.

Meritorious candidates admitted to eligible course-and-research master’s programmes may be awarded an ICAR-PG Scholarship, subject to the applicable rules and counselling outcome. The 2026 published rate was ₹12,640 per month plus a ₹6,000 annual contingent grant, normally for up to two years; the number of scholarships and governing rules can change, and the bulletin says final scholarship availability is known at counselling. Eligible candidates may also receive National Talent Scholarship support under the applicable guidelines.

• Check the NTA result portal and ICAR counselling notices rather than relying on individual communications.
• Complete counselling and admissions verification promptly; documents are verified by the admitting university.
• For a fisheries pathway, verify the specific university’s programme title, prerequisite degree, seats, and any special conditions before locking counselling choices.
