B.Sc. Nursing

The INC’s baseline eligibility for Basic B.Sc. Nursing is passing 10+2 with Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English Core or English Elective, with 45% aggregate marks from a recognised board. The applicant must be medically fit and must be 17 years old by 31 December of the year in which admission is sought. INC also lists eligible National Institute of Open School (NIOS) science candidates with 45% marks.

Admission authorities, universities and state counselling bodies can apply further conditions, including their own entrance-test, domicile, reservation, document-verification and category rules. Applicants should therefore use the applicable 2026–27 prospectus in addition to checking the INC baseline.

The revised INC B.Sc. Nursing curriculum describes a four-year full-time program comprising eight semesters. The curriculum uses a semester and credit-system structure adapted for professional education.

The INC revised syllabus is competency- and outcome-based. It combines foundational, core and elective courses; electives are offered as modules, while modular learning is integrated into mandatory foundational and core learning. Learning is not limited to classroom theory. For academic year 2026–27, INC states that admissions to B.Sc. Nursing are to be through a common entrance examination conducted by a State Government Common Entrance Cell or universities, with the B.Sc. Nursing syllabus admission terms and entrance criteria to be followed. The INC notice set 15 June 2026 as the date before which that entrance test should be conducted.

This means applicants should not assume a single all-India admission mechanism for every B.Sc. Nursing seat. The required entrance route, counselling authority, seat categories and score accepted can differ by state, university and institution. Verify that the college and its qualification are recognised through the INC before accepting admission.

M.Sc. Nursing is a direct academic progression. INC lists B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing and Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing as acceptable qualifications, along with a minimum 55% aggregate, registration as a nurse and midwife or equivalent with a State Nursing Registration Council, and one year of work experience after Basic B.Sc. Nursing. Universities may add entrance and specialisation-specific requirements.

For employment, graduates commonly pursue staff-nurse and nursing-officer roles after obtaining the registration required by the recruiting organisation. As a dated central-government example, the AIIMS NORCET-6 notice accepted B.Sc. Nursing from an INC/State Nursing Council-recognised institution or university, plus registration as a nurse and midwife.
