Eligibility for regular B.F.Tech entry
For NIFT’s 2026 regular B.F.Tech (Apparel Production) admission, candidates needed to have passed Class 12/10+2 or an accepted equivalent with both Physics and Mathematics. Accepted routes included a recognised central/state board, the National Open School senior-secondary examination with at least five subjects, an AIU-recognised equivalent, or GCE A-level/International Baccalaureate qualifications with Physics and Mathematics. Candidates taking their qualifying board examination in the admission year could apply provisionally, subject to meeting the requirements at seat allocation/admission.
For the 2026 admission cycle, the upper-age condition for UG programmes was that the candidate be under 24 on 1 August 2026; SC, ST and PwD candidates received a five-year relaxation. Eligibility policies can change by admission year, so applicants should use the current NIFT prospectus rather than relying on the 2026 conditions.
- Physics and Mathematics are required for the regular B.F.Tech route; a general Class 12 qualification without those subjects does not meet this stated requirement.
- NIFT also publishes a separate lateral-entry route. Its stated B.F.Tech lateral-entry criteria include a relevant 3- or 4-year diploma after Class 10, or qualifying Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics plus completion of NIFT’s two-year UG diploma programme.
Programme duration and academic character
B.F.Tech (Apparel Production) at NIFT is a four-year undergraduate programme. It is technology-oriented and multidisciplinary, built around the apparel business and the operational realities of apparel manufacturing rather than being solely a fashion-design degree.
The programme includes a final-year graduation project intended to address real-world problems in apparel design and development, manufacturing, or related areas.

What students study
NIFT describes the B.F.Tech curriculum as combining apparel-production technology with managerial and business foundations. Its 2026 prospectus identifies mandatory study in apparel production technology, production planning, pattern making, fashion marketing, sourcing and costing; NIFT also states that specialised machinery and IT laboratories support hands-on learning.
The published programme description additionally identifies fabrics and trims, apparel machinery, quality management, information technology, artificial intelligence, work study, merchandising, production planning and quality control as important areas. Students may have opportunities for interdisciplinary minors across fields such as Fashion Management Studies, Fashion Design, Fashion Communication and Accessory Design, subject to NIFT’s academic offerings and rules.

Admission through the NIFT Entrance Examination
For the 2026 cycle, NIFT used the General Ability Test (GAT) as the sole regular-entry test for B.F.Tech. The official FAQ states that GAT is computer based and assesses quantitative ability, analytical ability, logical reasoning, English comprehension, general knowledge and current affairs; final B.F.Tech merit was based 100% on the GAT score.
This differs from B.Des admission: B.F.Tech candidates do not take the Creative Ability Test (CAT), Situation Test or interview for the regular B.F.Tech route. A candidate with Mathematics who also applied to B.Des could take CAT together with GAT and receive separate merit ranks for B.Des and B.F.Tech.
The 2026 NIFTEE application window ran from 8 December 2025 to 6 January 2026, with a late-fee window through 10 January 2026; the entrance examination was scheduled for 8 February 2026. These are past, cycle-specific dates and should not be used as a forecast for the next intake.

Fees: published 2026 context
Fees are institution-, category- and year-specific. In NIFT’s 2026 prospectus, the published non-NRI regular fee schedule lists tuition of ₹150,000 per semester for 2026–27, alongside annual library, mediclaim/student-development and examination charges. The prospectus shows grand totals of ₹191,700 for the applicable first listed semester and ₹150,000 for the following semester, including the relevant one-time charges in the first amount.
The same published schedule states that NIFT may revise fees for any academic year. These figures should therefore be treated as dated 2026 admission context, not as a guaranteed total programme cost; housing, meals, travel, materials and other personal expenses are separate planning considerations unless specifically included in a current campus notice.

NIFT identifies apparel-manufacturing career paths including sampling-room coordinator, fit analyst, product-development manager, shop-floor manager, production planner/controller, merchandiser, supply-chain manager, retail planner, quality controller/quality-assurance professional, industrial engineer/manager, consultant and entrepreneur. These describe possible role directions rather than guaranteed placement outcomes.
For further study at NIFT, a B.F.Tech is an eligible qualification for M.F.Tech. NIFT’s 2026 rules also state that an undergraduate degree in any discipline can meet the academic eligibility for M.F.M, subject to the programme’s entrance and admission process. Graduates interested in building a fashion label or consultancy can also use the production, sourcing, costing, quality and merchandising capabilities developed in the programme; NIFT notes that some B.F.Tech graduates establish clothing brands, technical-textile businesses, consultancy firms and apparel-technology ventures.
