Responsibilities
A Senior Product Designer for physical products takes responsibility for translating user and market needs into products that can be specified and made. At senior level, this normally means owning complex development work across concept definition, detailed design, prototypes and production readiness. Entry routes in India
A direct preparation route is a professional design education in Product Design or Industrial Design. NID’s Product Design curriculum explicitly covers tangible solutions for users and includes design principles, ergonomics, materials and manufacturing techniques; NID’s programme structure combines theory, skills, design projects and field experiences supported by studios and labs.
A postgraduate route is also available. NID lists Product Design as an M.Des. specialisation, while IIT Bombay IDC’s Industrial Design M.Des. develops product-design capability through projects and provides specialisation options including product detailing, product visualisation and advanced ergonomics. CEED is an entrance examination through which qualified candidates may apply to participating M.Des. programmes, subject to each institute’s own admission requirements.

In practice, the mix of desk work, workshop or lab activity, prototype evaluation and manufacturing engagement depends on the sector and employer.
