In the Indian higher-education and online-learning context, instructional design spans curriculum and syllabus planning, programme duration, staffing and delivery choices, and selection of media such as print, audio, video, online and computer-mediated formats. Adjacent routes are also plausible where candidates build demonstrable learning-design capability. This indicates that technology and UX-oriented backgrounds can lead into some instructional-design roles, subject to each employer’s requirements.

• Study education, educational technology, learning sciences, psychology, communication/design, or a relevant subject area; then build evidence of applying pedagogy to learning content.
• Develop practical competence through course-development, e-learning, MOOC, educational-content, UX or learning-technology work.
