The official Seventh Central Pay Commission report lists its entry mode in the DRDO cadre as “Promotion and Limited Departmental Competitive Examination.” The applicable DRDO Group ‘C’ rules for Store Assistant ‘A’ and ‘B’ were issued in 2022 and amended in 2023; applicants and serving staff should use the current DRDO vacancy notice and departmental instructions for the precise eligibility, vacancy quota, examination, and seniority conditions in force at the time.

The related Store Assistant ‘A’ cadre is the practical feeder context: the 2023 amendment provides for a five-percent non-selection promotion channel into Store Assistant ‘A’ from eligible Level-1 Group ‘C’ staff with three years’ regular service and Class 12 qualification. That provision does not itself establish eligibility for Store Assistant ‘B’; it illustrates why candidates should distinguish the A-grade entry route from the B-grade internal advancement route.

The feeder provision expressly includes Store Assistant ‘B’ at Level 4 with 10 years’ regular service in the grade and successful completion of two to four weeks of relevant training from CEPTAM or another recognised training institute.

The same rules also show that Senior Store Assistant is a mixed-recruitment post: 60% direct recruitment and 40% promotion, failing which deputation. Promotion depends on the rule conditions and vacancies; completing the service period or training does not by itself guarantee appointment.

• Build and retain documented regular service in the grade.
• Complete the prescribed relevant training when made available or required.
• Check the applicable promotion notice, since vacancy distribution and procedural requirements can change through later rules or notifications.
