VITEEE

VITEEE is the Vellore Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination used for admission to undergraduate engineering programmes in the VIT Group. In the 2026 admission guidance, VIT stated that Indian nationals seeking B.Tech admission had to take VITEEE, and that B.Tech admission was based on the VITEEE merit rank rather than Class XII, JEE Main, or SAT scores.

The examination is therefore an entry point from the PCM/PCMB/PCB senior-secondary pathway to VIT B.Tech programmes. It is not itself a degree or credential: candidates who obtain a rank must still take part in counselling, select available preferences, pay the required fee, and satisfy document and academic-eligibility verification.

• VIT stated that it does not offer a management quota for B.Tech admission; its stated route is merit rank in VITEEE followed by the admissions process.
• NRI and foreign applicants may have separate direct-application routes; NRI/OCI candidates may also apply through the general VITEEE route where applicable.

VIT’s 2026 guidance allowed Resident Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indian Nationals, OCI holders, and PIO holders to apply for VITEEE. It set the age condition at date of birth on or after July 1, 2004, using the date recorded in the High School/SSC/Class X certificate.

Candidates had to have completed, or be appearing in during 2026, an accepted Class XII/HSC/Intermediate-equivalent qualifying examination in regular, full-time, formal education. For the standard PCM route, VIT required at least 60% aggregate in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, with at least 50% in Mathematics. For the Biology route, it required at least 60% aggregate in Biology, Physics, and Chemistry, with at least 50% in Biology.

For applicants from SC/ST categories or from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and the listed Northeastern states, VIT stated a 50% aggregate requirement in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or Biology, subject to producing the applicable community or nativity documentation at counselling. These requirements are specific to the 2026 cycle and should be rechecked for future intakes.

• Candidates taking the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude combination (MPCEA) could be considered for all B.Tech programmes, subject to the stated academic thresholds.
• Candidates taking Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude (BPCEA) were limited to the bio/health-related programmes specified by VIT, such as B.Tech Biotechnology and CSE (Bioinformatics); programme availability varies by campus and cycle.

The 2026 VITEEE was described as a computer-based, English-language multiple-choice examination. The allotted duration was 150 minutes for 125 questions. Candidates selected either Mathematics or Biology as the 40-question subject section, alongside Physics (35 questions), Chemistry (35), Aptitude (10), and English (5).

The published 2026 marking scheme was four marks for each correct response, minus one mark for each wrong response, and zero for an unanswered or marked-for-review question. Because the syllabus, question distribution, marking, and scheduling can be revised between admission cycles, candidates should treat the official live-cycle admission guidelines as controlling.

For the 2026 cycle, the online process was: create a new-user account with a valid email address and active mobile number; verify the mobile number by OTP; sign in; complete the application; make payment; upload the required photograph and signature; and download the completed application. VIT stated that correspondence would be sent through the registered email address and mobile number.

The published 2026 application cost was ₹1,350, payable through the online methods listed by VIT. This was explicitly non-refundable, and both the amount and payment options should be verified in the next cycle’s official notice before applying.

After the examination, VIT’s stated selection process was rank-based online counselling. Candidates could then give preferences for campus, programme, and fee category. Provisional allotment remained conditional on payment by the stipulated deadline and VIT’s subsequent eligibility and document verification.

• Use only VIT’s official admissions sites; VIT warns applicants about fraudulent claims of direct admission, agents, and unofficial sites.
• The 2026 application deadline of April 12, 2026 has passed; do not rely on it for a later intake.

Start by choosing the correct subject track—Mathematics or Biology—because that selection affects both the tested 40-question section and the range of B.Tech programmes for which VIT says a candidate can be eligible. Then build preparation around the official section mix: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology, Aptitude, and English.

Use timed computer-based practice. The 2026 structure allocated 150 minutes for 125 multiple-choice questions and used negative marking, so preparation should include accuracy, disciplined question selection, and full-length attempts under the official time limit. VIT also indicated that a mock examination would be enabled for the 2026 cycle; future applicants should use any mock test and syllabus materials released in their own application portal rather than assuming an old-year pattern is unchanged.

• Study the current official syllabus before buying material or finalising a timetable.
• Practise both section-level questions and complete 150-minute tests.
• Review incorrect answers carefully: under the 2026 rule, a wrong answer carried a one-mark penalty.

A VITEEE rank can make a candidate eligible to participate in centralised counselling for B.Tech programmes at VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT-AP, and VIT-Bhopal. It does not guarantee a particular branch or campus: VIT states that allotment depends on rank and the options available when the candidate participates in counselling.

Examples of programmes shown by VIT include B.Tech Biotechnology, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. The precise portfolio differs by campus; for example, VIT’s programme page lists CSE at all four campuses, while Biotechnology is listed at Vellore, Chennai, and VIT-AP. Integrated M.Tech options are separately listed by VIT and should be checked for their own availability and admission rules.

VIT advises that branch-wise rank ranges cannot be treated as fixed cut-offs because merit position, demand, seats, campus choices, and counselling availability differ each year. Applicants should use their actual rank and the current counselling portal rather than relying on informal historic cut-off claims.

• Typical immediate academic outcomes include B.Tech pathways in CSE, ECE, Mechanical Engineering, and Biotechnology, subject to eligibility and campus availability.
• Integrated/dual-degree options are offered selectively; confirm the exact programme, campus, duration, and admission route in the applicable cycle.
• No salary, placement, fee-category, or branch-allotment outcome is guaranteed by writing VITEEE alone.
