SEBI Grade A

SEBI Grade A is a competitive recruitment route into SEBI at the Officer Grade A (Assistant Manager) level. SEBI describes itself as the statutory body created to protect investors, promote the development of the securities market, and regulate that market; Grade A recruitment therefore supports work in a financial-market regulator rather than admission to an academic programme.

Work assignments can range across policy formulation, intermediary registration, inspection, supervision, investigation, and adjudication. SEBI states that the work profile also depends on the recruited stream, and that officers may be posted or transferred anywhere in India where SEBI has offices.

Eligibility is stream-specific. In the 2025 notification, the General stream accepted a master's degree or two-year postgraduate diploma in any discipline, a law or engineering bachelor's degree, or qualifications such as CA, CFA, CS, or Cost Accountant. Legal required a law bachelor's degree; IT accepted an engineering bachelor's degree in any branch or a bachelor's degree plus a qualifying two-year postgraduate computer science/computer application/IT qualification.

The 2025 notice also set distinct specialist qualifications for Research, Official Language, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering streams. Candidates in final examinations could sit Phases I and II, but candidates who reached the interview had to produce evidence that they had obtained the required qualification. Requirements, age cut-off dates, experience treatment, reservations, and PwBD provisions must be verified against the live advertisement.

For the 2025 cycle, the upper age limit was 30 years as of September 30, 2025, with stated relaxations including up to five years for SC/ST candidates and up to three years for eligible OBC candidates where posts were reserved. This is dated policy context, not a standing guarantee for later cycles.

In the 2025 notification, Phase I was an online screening examination with two 100-mark multiple-choice papers. Paper 1, common to all streams, covered General Awareness including the financial sector, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. Paper 2 tested General-stream subjects—Commerce, Accountancy, Management, Finance, Costing, Companies Act, and Economics—or the relevant specialist subject for the other streams.

Career progression at SEBI runs from Grade A (Assistant Manager) through Grade F (Chief General Manager), according to SEBI's careers information. Promotion eligibility is linked to stipulated service in grade, but progression rules and vacancies remain subject to SEBI policy.

Pay is variable and should be read as dated context only. The 2025 notice stated a Grade A pay scale of ₹62,500–₹126,100 over 17 years and estimated gross monthly emoluments at Mumbai at approximately ₹1.84 lakh without accommodation or ₹1.43 lakh with accommodation at the minimum of the scale, inclusive of listed allowances and SEBI's NPS contribution. A later notice or appointment terms may differ.
