NMAT by GMAC

NMAT by GMAC is an admissions test intended to help applicants demonstrate language, quantitative, and logical-reasoning skills for graduate management education. GMAC states that participating schools use it for graduate business programmes in India and in several other countries; it is therefore an exam score, not by itself an admission offer or a common counselling process.

Applicants should separately confirm whether each target programme accepts NMAT scores, which testing cycle and score it accepts, and what additional selection stages it requires. GMAC explicitly distinguishes NMAT registration from a school’s own programme application process.

• The three assessed domains are Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, and Logical Reasoning.
• The official NMAT website describes the test as computer adaptive: question difficulty is tailored according to prior responses.
• A score report supplies scaled section scores and a total score for use in participating schools’ admissions processes.

GMAC’s NMAT materials direct candidates to review the eligibility and admissions requirements of each university or business school. Consequently, there is no single exam-score threshold or academic eligibility rule that guarantees admission across NMAT-accepting programmes.

For example, NMIMS’s published 2026–28 admission handout required a recognised bachelor’s degree with at least 50% aggregate marks for several MBA and MBA HR programmes, while certain specialised programmes specified relevant undergraduate disciplines. This is an institution- and programme-specific example, rather than a universal NMAT rule.

• Before registering, check the target programme’s academic qualification requirements, minimum marks, work-experience rules if any, accepted NMAT cycle, and its separate application deadline.
• If requesting testing accommodation, GMAC says candidates must provide the requested information and upload a disability certificate during online registration; requests are reviewed case by case.

The official format has three separately timed sections. Candidates choose the section order at the start of the exam, but must complete each section within its own time allocation; unused time from one section cannot be transferred to another. Questions are delivered one at a time from a question pool.

The test has no negative marking. Official materials describe a total of 108 questions over 120 minutes, with equal numbers of questions in the three sections. The published topic list includes reading comprehension and grammar-related tasks in Language Skills; arithmetic, algebra, probability, data interpretation and data sufficiency in Quantitative Skills; and critical reasoning, puzzles and deductions in Logical Reasoning.

GMAC states that the downloadable scorecard is normally available within 48 hours after the test, although results from exams with a test-security incident may be audited and published later. Score ranges are 12–120 per section and 36–360 overall.

Registration for NMAT and applying to a business school are separate actions. In GMAC’s stated workflow, a candidate creates an NMAT account, completes the profile and application details, verifies the email address, selects score-recipient schools, uploads a recent photograph, and pays the test fee. The selected schools’ own applications and admission requirements must be completed separately.

After payment, candidates use the dashboard to book an available date, time, and location. GMAC states that slots are subject to availability and are allocated first come, first served. The support guidance says that an admit card becomes available seven days before the scheduled examination date.

Details entered in the form should be checked carefully before submission. GMAC’s support guidance says personal details and address changes are not entertained after submission, while its current form guidance identifies only limited editable fields during the published edit period.

• Use a valid email address and complete account verification.
• Ensure the name and date of birth exactly match the photo identification used for the test.
• Select score-recipient schools during registration; GMAC’s published process says five score reports are included, with charges for additional reports.
• Book promptly after registration if a particular test-centre city, date, or time is important.
• Treat all dates, test modes, centres, fees, edit windows, and document instructions as cycle-specific; verify them in the current official candidate dashboard and dates page.

Begin by learning the fixed section timing and taking an official practice exam under realistic time conditions. Because the exam is computer adaptive and each section has its own time limit, preparation should include both concept review and timed decision-making rather than relying only on untimed question practice.

GMAC offers an official guide, a free practice examination with two attempts, and paid practice examinations. The official guide is presented as a source for exam format, topic coverage, past questions, explanations, and a six-week study plan. Practice results can be used to identify whether Language Skills, Quantitative Skills, or Logical Reasoning needs more focused work.

A practical plan is to allocate routine practice to the three official topic groups, record accuracy and time by question type, and complete full-length simulations before the scheduled test. Use the results to decide section order in advance, since the chosen order is set at the beginning of the test.

• Language Skills: practise reading comprehension, paragraph formation, error identification, prepositions, sentence completion, and analogies.
• Quantitative Skills: revise number properties, arithmetic, algebra and probability, data integration, and data sufficiency.
• Logical Reasoning: practise critical reasoning, analytical puzzles, deductions, and related reasoning tasks.
• Use official practice products to become familiar with the 108-question, 120-minute structure.

The NMAT scorecard reports scaled scores for the three sections and a total score. GMAC also publishes percentile information, but percentile tables are tied to a specified test-taker sample and data period, so they should be read as descriptive context rather than as an admission cut-off.

Whether a score leads to the next selection stage depends on the receiving school and programme. Applicants should submit the programme application separately and follow that school’s rules on accepted score attempts, section requirements, interviews, written assessments, and final selection. GMAC specifically notes, for example, that NMIMS accepts the first valid score, illustrating why school-specific score-use policies matter.

As dated context, GMAC’s published percentile page reports that its displayed table used a sample of 53,271 test takers from November 5, 2025 through January 17, 2026. It should not be assumed to predict future percentiles or a particular school’s admission threshold.

• Download the scorecard when notified by GMAC and retain it for programme applications.
• Check the programme’s own NMAT score policy before deciding whether to use a retake.
• Do not treat percentile information or previous admission thresholds as a guaranteed current cut-off.
