NABARD Grade A

NABARD Grade A is an entry route to Assistant Manager roles at the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. The 2025 Grade A advertisement describes NABARD as an all-India apex organisation wholly owned by the Government of India and recruited for RDBS, Legal, and Protocol & Security Service posts.

For agriculture-linked technical disciplines, the 2025 notice describes work such as mapping rural-sector resource potential, credit-linked planning, preparation of sectoral and State Focus Papers, techno-financial advice, liaison with government departments and research institutions, and support for development schemes. Actual assignments can vary: NABARD states that specialist officers may be assigned other work for administrative reasons.

• The relevant post/discipline must be chosen carefully: the 2025 notice permitted only one post or discipline application.
• Selected candidates in the 2025 terms were liable to posting and transfer anywhere in India.

Eligibility is notification-specific. In the 2025 RDBS notice, the General discipline accepted a bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognised university/institution with at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD applicants), or specified postgraduate/professional alternatives. The same notice required the qualifying result to have been declared by 01 November 2025.

For a dedicated route, the 2025 notice required a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Engineering with at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for PwBD applicants), or a postgraduate Agriculture Engineering degree with at least 55% (50% for PwBD applicants). For Plantation & Horticulture, it required a bachelor’s Horticulture degree with at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for PwBD applicants), or a postgraduate Horticulture degree with at least 55% (50% for PwBD applicants). Applicants should compare the precise degree title on their certificate with the next notification; NABARD says that where a certificate does not state a specialisation, a university/college certificate specifying it is required.

For the 2025 RDBS/Legal recruitment, the base age band was 21–30 years as of 01 November 2025, with specified upper-age relaxations. That dated cut-off is not a standing rule for future cycles.

• B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture: review the General discipline criteria in the next notice; the 2025 specialist list did not show a separate Agriculture discipline.
• B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture: review both General and Plantation & Horticulture, where offered.
• B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering: review both General and Agriculture Engineering, where offered.
• Check nationality, reservation, disability accommodation, age relaxation, marks calculation, and document requirements in the cycle-specific official advertisement.

The 2025 RDBS/Legal process used a preliminary examination, mains examination, mandatory 90-minute MCQ-based psychometric test, and 50-mark interview. Candidates clearing the applicable Phase I cut-offs were shortlisted for mains; candidates meeting the mains cut-offs and appearing in the psychometric test could be shortlisted for interview. NABARD stated that final RDBS/Legal ranking used mains and interview marks together.

For the 2025 General RDBS mains, Paper I was a 90-minute, 100-mark descriptive General English paper. Paper II covered Economic & Social Issues (ESI) and Agriculture & Rural Development (ARD): 30 objective questions for 50 marks in 30 minutes, followed by a 50-mark descriptive component in which four of six questions were attempted in 90 minutes. Specialist mains used the same Paper I structure but a stream-specific Paper II.

The 2025 notice applied a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to each wrong objective answer in Phase I and Phase II. Formats and weightings may change, so use the information handout and advertisement published for the cycle you enter.

• For General RDBS, Phase I shortlisting was based on the merit section: General Awareness, ESI with rural-India focus, and ARD with rural-India emphasis.
• The 2025 notice allowed Hindi or English where applicable; the General English descriptive paper remained in English.

Apply only when NABARD publishes an active Grade A notice. In the 2025 cycle, applications were accepted online through the NABARD website only; the form was to be completed in English. The dated 2025 registration period has closed, so applicants should monitor NABARD’s Career Notices page rather than rely on old registration links.

The 2025 instructions required applicants to prepare a photograph, signature, left-thumb impression, handwritten declaration, online payment details, and an active personal email address and mobile number. Eligibility was verified at interview/joining, so an application did not itself establish eligibility.

• Read the complete advertisement before selecting a post or discipline.
• Confirm the education-result cut-off date and all category certificates before applying.
• Retain the completed application and fee details after payment; do not send a printout unless the current notice specifically asks for it.
• Treat fees, deadlines, documents, examination centres, and vacancy totals as cycle-specific.

Start with the official syllabus for the discipline you plan to enter and map preparation to the examination phase. NABARD’s ESI/ARD syllabus expressly says it is illustrative rather than exhaustive and instructs candidates to prepare for relevant current developments and Acts, even if a topic is not named in the syllabus.

For General RDBS, build working coverage of Indian economic and social issues, rural banking and financial institutions, agriculture, soil and water conservation, irrigation, farm and agri-engineering, storage and processing, and plantation/horticulture. The official syllabus also includes current economic and social issues, so revise contemporary policy and sector developments from authoritative sources alongside core concepts.

Practise typed descriptive writing for the mains format: English essay/précis/comprehension/official or business correspondence, plus structured ESI/ARD responses. For a specialist route, devote equivalent attention to the notification’s stream-specific Paper II syllabus and terminology.

• Use timed objective practice and account for the one-fourth negative marking stated in the 2025 notice.
• Practise keyboard-based descriptive answers, including Hindi input layouts if you intend to answer Paper II in Hindi and the current notice permits it.
• Use official NABARD notices, syllabus documents, government publications, and primary regulatory sources for current-affairs revision.

Successful candidates are appointed as Assistant Managers in the discipline/service advertised for that cycle. Under the 2025 Grade A terms, initial appointment carried a two-year probation period that NABARD could extend by up to one additional year; selected candidates were liable to be posted and transferred anywhere in India.

For agriculture, horticulture, and agricultural-engineering backgrounds, the 2025 indicative role description connects technical knowledge with rural credit planning, techno-financial appraisal and advisory work, government-scheme implementation, research-institution liaison, and agri-business areas such as value chains, processing, value addition, and organic farming. These are indicative duties rather than a guarantee of a particular first posting.

• For RDBS/Legal in 2025, the final merit ranking was based on Phase II mains and interview, not preliminary marks.
• Vacancies and available specialisations vary by notification; the 2025 advertisement allowed NABARD to increase, decrease, leave unfilled, or cancel vacancies/processes as required.
