Quick facts

What it is
IBPS RRB is the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection’s Common Recruitment Process (CRP) for participating Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), covering Group B Office Assistants (Multipurpose) and Group A Officers in Scale I, II and III.
Conducting body
IBPS is an autonomous employment-testing and selection body; it conducts the RRB CRP on behalf of participating banks.
Selection routes
In CRP-RRBs XIV, Office Assistant and Officer Scale I used preliminary and main online examinations; Officer Scale II and III used a single online examination. Officer posts also involved an interview, while Office Assistant provisional allotment was based on main-exam marks and reported vacancies.
Eligibility baseline
Eligibility is post-specific. The XIV notice required a bachelor’s degree for Office Assistant and Officer Scale I, with local-language proficiency for those posts; Scale II and III required the qualifications and experience specified for the relevant generalist or specialist post.
Latest cycle context
As of the review date, the official CRP-RRBs XIV page records reserve-list provisional-allotment notices dated June 30, 2026. This is a past-cycle status, not an announcement of a new application window; candidates should rely on the next official RRB notification for fresh dates and eligibility.

Purpose and posts covered

IBPS RRB is a common recruitment route into participating Regional Rural Banks rather than a single-bank recruitment examination. The process recruits Office Assistants (Multipurpose) and Officers at Scale I, Scale II—including generalist and specialist roles—and Scale III. Participating RRBs, vacancies, state/UT coverage and post requirements are specified in the notification for each cycle.

  • Office Assistant (Multipurpose): Group B role.
  • Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager): entry officer role.
  • Officer Scale II (Manager): general banking and specialist officer roles, subject to the advertised streams and requirements.
  • Officer Scale III (Senior Manager): senior officer role.

Eligibility

Treat each cycle’s notification as controlling: IBPS explicitly directs candidates to the relevant notification for educational, age and other eligibility conditions. For CRP-RRBs XIV, the general-category/EWS age bands as of September 1, 2025 were 18–28 for Office Assistant, above 18 and below 30 for Scale I, above 21 and below 32 for Scale II, and above 21 and below 40 for Scale III. Statutory/category relaxations applied under that notice; these dates and limits can change in a later cycle.

For XIV, Office Assistant required a bachelor’s degree in any discipline and local-language proficiency prescribed by the participating RRB. Scale I also required a bachelor’s degree, with specified degree subjects receiving preference. Scale II and III candidates needed the post-specific degree, aggregate-mark and experience conditions in the detailed notification; specialist applicants should verify the exact stream rather than assume a general graduation degree is sufficient.

  • For Scale I and Office Assistant, XIV treated study of the state language at Standard VIII or above through a government-recognised board, or an equivalent certificate, as evidence of local-language proficiency. Candidates otherwise selected could be allowed time after joining to acquire it, subject to the notice’s conditions.
  • The XIV notice also stated that applicants should maintain a healthy credit history by joining, according to the policy of the participating RRB; it said this was not a precondition to apply.
  • Nationality/citizenship, reservation, disability/scribe provisions, document requirements and cut-off dates must be checked against the applicable notification.

Exam format and selection

The XIV process used online objective tests. Office Assistant and Officer Scale I candidates first took a preliminary examination and, if shortlisted, a main examination. Scale II and Scale III candidates took a single online examination and, if shortlisted, proceeded to interview. The detailed notice set the examination structure, cut-offs, negative-marking rules, language options and centre arrangements, so candidates should use the notification for their own cycle rather than an older pattern.

For example, the XIV preliminary examination for Office Assistant had 40 Reasoning and 40 Numerical Ability questions, for 80 marks in 45 minutes. The notice also set a one-fourth-of-the-marks-assigned penalty for each wrong answer in objective tests. Exact section timings, marks and qualifying rules vary by post and cycle.

  • Office Assistant: preliminary examination → main examination → provisional allotment.
  • Officer Scale I: preliminary examination → main examination → common interview → provisional allotment.
  • Officer Scale II and III: single online examination → common interview → provisional allotment.
  • IBPS’s published highlights state that RRB Office Assistant and Scale I examinations have been offered in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages; candidates should confirm language availability in the current notice.

Application process

Applications are made through the official IBPS registration portal during the window stated in the relevant notification. For XIV, candidates could apply for Office Assistant and also for an officer post, but could apply for only one officer-cadre post; separate applications and fees were required where applicable. Online submission does not itself establish eligibility: IBPS states that applications remain subject to scrutiny and can be rejected if eligibility is not met.

Fee and deadline information is cycle-specific. In XIV, the stated online fee was ₹175 inclusive of GST for SC/ST/PwBD candidates for officer posts and ₹850 inclusive of GST for other officer applicants; Office Assistant fee categories differed, including ₹175 for SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/DESM candidates. These 2025 figures should not be used as a forecast for a future cycle.

  • Read the detailed notification before registration and select the correct post, state/UT and RRB preferences where required.
  • Prepare the photograph, signature, thumb impression, handwritten declaration and any live-photograph or identity details in the specifications published for that cycle.
  • Keep the registration number, password, e-receipt and submitted application. IBPS advises re-login after payment and printing the e-receipt/application when registration succeeds.
  • Use the edit/correction facility only if and when the notification provides one; IBPS says already submitted registered data generally cannot simply be changed outside the applicable edit window.

Preparation approach

Build preparation around the post-specific official test structure: practise the objective sections under the published time limit, then use timed mixed sets and full-length computer-based simulations. For Office Assistant and Scale I, preparation should separately account for the preliminary screening stage and the main examination; for Scale II/III, it should cover the single examination and the advertised specialist or professional content where relevant.

Use official materials for process familiarity. IBPS says a mock-test link is made available when call letters are issued so candidates can view the system interface, and its RRB programme has provided online pre-examination training for eligible candidates under government-guideline categories. PET is familiarisation support, not a substitute for study.

  • Read the current notification and information handout first; make a section-and-time plan from that document.
  • Practise the on-screen actions IBPS describes: selecting, clearing, saving and marking answers for review.
  • For officer interviews, organise originals and valid eligibility/category documents early; the interview call letter and notification specify the required documents.
  • Do not depend on coaching-site syllabus summaries where they conflict with the current IBPS notice.

Results, allotment and employment outcome

A successful IBPS RRB result leads to provisional allotment, not automatically to an appointment letter. Allotment is based on the relevant selection outcome, reported vacancies, merit, reservation-policy considerations, preferences where applicable and administrative requirements. For Scale I and Office Assistant, XIV tied allotment to the state/UT applied for; Scale II and III allotment was to an RRB according to merit-cum-preference and the published process.

IBPS states that its role ends after provisional allotment and that the allotted bank/organisation makes the appointment offer. The bank can therefore conduct appointment-stage checks and apply its own joining requirements. Pay, posting, probation and service conditions are employer matters and should be confirmed from the allotted RRB rather than inferred from the IBPS exam notice.

  • Check results, score information, cut-offs and allotment notices only through official IBPS channels.
  • Preserve credentials and documents through joining; document or eligibility failures can affect candidature.
  • The XIV CRP validity was stated to expire one year after provisional allotment or when a fresh provisional allotment was made, whichever occurred earlier; validity terms may differ in later notifications.
