CMAT

CMAT is an entrance test for postgraduate management admissions rather than an admission offer itself. NTA conducts the examination, processes answer-key challenges, declares scores and provides score data; it does not conduct counselling or allocate seats.

A CMAT score can be used to apply to participating institutions, but candidates must separately meet each institution’s admission requirements. Institutions set their own score cut-offs and may use further selection stages such as group discussion and personal interview. Merely taking CMAT does not create an automatic right to a postgraduate seat.

• Useful for graduates from diverse undergraduate backgrounds—including BBE, BTTM and hotel-management programmes—who intend to pursue eligible management courses.
• Always verify programme-specific eligibility, accepted test scores, selection components, fee and application dates on the target institution’s own admissions page.

For CMAT 2026, NTA required Indian citizenship and a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Final-year bachelor’s students could apply if their result would be declared before the start of academic-year 2026–27 admissions. NTA specified no age restriction.

Applicants should not treat test eligibility as identical to admission eligibility. The bulletin directs candidates to verify the requirements of the institutions to which they apply, and notes that the degree should be recognized under AICTE provisions.

• A completed bachelor’s degree in any discipline was acceptable for the 2026 examination.
• Final-year candidates were permitted subject to the stated result-timing condition.
• No age limit applied for CMAT 2026.

The CMAT 2026 structure was a three-hour CBT in English. It contained five equally weighted areas: Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Each area had 20 questions, for 100 questions and 400 marks overall.

The 2026 marking rule was +4 for a correct answer, −1 for an incorrect answer and 0 for an unattempted question. The 2026 bulletin also stated that, if a question were dropped because of a technical error, full marks would be awarded to all candidates irrespective of attempt status. Future-cycle format and rules should be checked in that cycle’s official bulletin.

• Question count and maximum score in 2026: 100 questions and 400 marks.

In the 2026 cycle, applications were accepted online only through the official CMAT portal. The stated workflow was: register to obtain an application number; complete personal, education, programme and examination-city details; upload required images/documents; pay the fee online; and save the confirmation page after successful payment.

The CMAT 2026 registration window, including its extensions, is over. The original 2026 bulletin listed application fees of ₹2,500 for General (UR) male candidates and ₹1,250 for General (UR) female candidates and the listed reserved-category/third-gender candidates, plus applicable processing charges and GST. These were 2026-cycle figures, not a prediction of future fees. Candidates seeking a later CMAT cycle should rely only on a new NTA notice and information bulletin for dates, categories, fees and correction rules.

• Use only the official CMAT portal for registration; NTA said applications submitted by other modes would not be accepted.
• Use an active personal or parent/guardian mobile number and email address, as NTA sends examination communications through the registered details.
• Save the confirmation page after payment; the 2026 bulletin treated successful fee receipt as necessary for confirmed candidature.

Build preparation around the five official CMAT domains and the three-hour CBT constraint. A practical plan is to diagnose performance separately in Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, General Awareness, and Innovation & Entrepreneurship; then practise mixed, timed sets that reproduce the 100-question, 180-minute format.

Because the 2026 scoring rule penalized incorrect answers by one mark, use mock-review data to distinguish questions worth attempting from questions better left unanswered. This is a preparation inference from the official marking scheme, not an NTA-prescribed strategy. Before the exam, review the official CBT procedure and the current cycle’s bulletin for interface, identification, permitted-items and centre instructions.

• Practise completing 100 questions in 180 minutes under CBT-like conditions.
• Track accuracy as well as speed because incorrect answers carried negative marking in 2026.
• Revise each section deliberately; the 2026 blueprint assigned equal question counts and marks to all five sections.
• Use the official information bulletin as the definitive source if a coaching resource conflicts with it.

For the most recent completed cycle, NTA declared CMAT 2026 scores on February 17, 2026. Since that examination was conducted in a single shift, NTA stated that the scorecard contained candidates’ marks and corresponding percentile scores.

A CMAT result is an input to institutional admissions, not a centralized seat allocation. Candidates must apply to desired participating institutions separately, meet their respective cut-offs and complete any additional selection procedure. The relevant institution—not NTA—determines final admission.
