Quick facts
- Awarding body
- CMA Final is the Final Course examination stage administered by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI) under its CMA Syllabus 2022 framework.
- Papers and groups
- Under Syllabus 2022, CMA Final has Group III (Papers 13–16) and Group IV (Papers 17–19 plus one chosen elective from Papers 20A, 20B, or 20C), for eight papers in total.
- Training before Final examination
- The published Syllabus 2022 pathway requires Final-level skills training (80 hours), a 10-day Industry Oriented Training Programme (IOTP), and 15 months of practical training before appearing in both or remaining Final group(s).
What CMA Final is for
CMA Final is the capstone examination stage in ICMAI’s professional Cost and Management Accountancy pathway. Its Syllabus 2022 curriculum advances from corporate and economic law, strategic finance, direct and indirect taxation, strategic cost management, audit, and corporate financial reporting to an elective in performance management and valuation, banking and insurance risk, or entrepreneurship and start-up.
Passing Final is an examination milestone rather than automatic professional membership. ICMAI’s published Associate Membership conditions state that a Final passer may seek Associate Membership after obtaining at least three years of the specified practical experience and satisfying the Council with evidence of that experience.
- Use this node for the professional examination stage, not for ICMAI membership itself.
- The elective is selected at the time of Final Course enrollment.
Eligibility to enroll and sit for CMA Final
ICMAI’s published Final Course enrollment rule is that only candidates who have passed the Institute’s Intermediate examination are eligible; the prospectus expresses this as qualifying Intermediate in both groups. A copy of the Intermediate pass marksheet is to be provided with the Final admission form.
For admission to a Final examination, the prospectus lists further conditions: a valid registration number, completion of prescribed Final training, no debarment from the Institute’s Final examination, and submission of the examination form with the required fee. It additionally says that a student who passes Intermediate in the December examination cannot sit for the immediately following June Final examination.
- Complete Final enrollment at least four months before the examination under the published prospectus rule.
- Treat eligibility and training requirements as term-sensitive: ICMAI says syllabus, examination scheme, and patterns may be modified through its notifications.
Groups, papers, and assessment structure
The Syllabus 2022 Final is organized into two groups. Group III comprises Corporate and Economic Laws; Strategic Financial Management; Direct Tax Laws and International Taxation; and Strategic Cost Management. Group IV comprises Cost and Management Audit; Corporate Financial Reporting; Indirect Tax Laws and Practice; and one elective paper selected from Strategic Performance Management and Business Valuation, Risk Management in Banking and Insurance, or Entrepreneurship and Start-up.
The Institute’s prospectus states that each Final paper carries 100 marks. The published standard of pass is at least 40% in every paper and 50% aggregate in the non-exempted papers of a group; passing all groups is required to pass the examination. A score of 60% or more in a paper can create an exemption or carry-forward benefit subject to ICMAI’s stated conditions and validity period.
- ICMAI says Final examinations are held twice a year, on dates decided by its Council.
- Intermediate and Final candidates may elect to write answers in Hindi; mixing Hindi and English in an answer script may lead to cancellation under the published rule.
Enrollment and examination application process
First, an Intermediate-qualified student enrolls in the Final Course, submits the Intermediate pass marksheet, chooses one Final elective, and completes the applicable coaching and training pathway. ICMAI directs students to its online student portal for online enrollment.
Separately, candidates apply for a specific Final examination term. The 2025 ICMAI prospectus says Final examination forms are completed online through the Institute website and paid through the online payment gateway; it also describes a bank-challan route. The same prospectus listed ordinary online application cut-offs of April 10 for the June term and October 10 for the December term, but these are dated published guidance rather than a confirmation of a current-term deadline. Candidates should use the relevant examination notification for the term they intend to take.
- Published 2025 fee context for an Indian centre: ₹1,800 for a single Final group and ₹3,200 for both groups; verify the current notification because fees may change.
- ICMAI’s published Final enrollment cut-offs were January 31 for a June term and July 31 for a December term; confirm current applicability before relying on them.
Preparation using ICMAI materials
Start with ICMAI’s official Syllabus 2022 Final curriculum and paper-wise study materials, then map preparation across both groups and the chosen elective. The official syllabus gives topic-level weightages, which the prospectus describes as a guide to study time and the approximate proportional allocation of marks in an examination.
Use ICMAI’s official Final model question papers and answer keys to practise under examination conditions. The Institute has published Final model-question-paper resources for the June 2026 term, alongside official study materials for Papers 13 through 19 and the three elective options.
Build training completion into the study plan. ICMAI’s Final skills-training page lists an 80-hour-plus-10-day requirement, comprising ERP-focused training, business/data analytics, and IOTP; the prospectus also specifies the related practical-training requirement for Final examination eligibility.
- Prioritize current ICMAI supplementary material and term notifications, especially for law and tax papers that may be amended.
- Practise both paper-level performance and group aggregate: the pass rule requires both the per-paper minimum and group aggregate.
