Quick facts

Exam authority
NTA conducts AIAPGET on behalf of NCISM and NCH, in consultation with the Ministry of Ayush; NTA’s role covers the test and results rather than seat counselling.
Counselling route
AACCC conducts counselling for specified All India Quota, central/national-institute and deemed-university PG seats; State/UT counselling authorities handle State/UT quota seats under their applicable rules.

Purpose and place in the AYUSH education pathway

AIAPGET is the national postgraduate entrance test used for admission to MD/MS AYUSH programmes in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. For the 2025–26 session, NTA described it as one examination covering both All India and State quota seats across AYUSH colleges, institutions, universities and deemed universities; it also stated that separate AYUSH MD/MS entrance tests were not to be conducted for that session.

For candidates progressing from BAMS, AIAPGET is the gateway to regulated postgraduate Ayurveda study. NCISM’s postgraduate Ayurveda regulations specify AIAPGET as the uniform entrance examination for MD/MS Ayurveda programmes, while the NCH’s Homoeopathy PG regulations similarly provide for AIAPGET as the uniform entrance test for Homoeopathic graduates seeking M.D. (Homoeopathy) admission.

  • The examination rank supports admission counselling; it is not itself a college allotment or admission offer.
  • Eligibility, subject choice, domicile, reservation and institute-specific conditions are checked during the relevant counselling/admission process, not conclusively by NTA at application stage.

Who should apply

The 2025 NTA bulletin allowed applicants holding a recognised BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS or Graded BHMS degree, provisional certificate or pass certificate, with permanent or provisional registration issued by the relevant former council, commission or State/UT board. It also required completion of the one-year internship, or completion by the year-specific deadline. The 2025 internship cut-off was June 30, 2025, so that date must not be reused for a future cycle.

For BAMS candidates seeking MD/MS Ayurveda, NCISM regulations require a recognised Ayurvedacharya/BAMS qualification and prescribe qualifying at the 50th percentile, with 40th-percentile provisions for SC/ST/OBC candidates and 45th percentile for general-category candidates with benchmark disabilities, subject to the regulations’ provisions. For BHMS candidates, NCH’s 2024 regulations likewise set a 50th-percentile threshold, with 40th-percentile provisions for SC/ST/OBC and 45th percentile for general-category candidates with specified disabilities; regulators may lower marks for an academic year when the stated conditions are met.

  • Meeting the examination eligibility criteria does not by itself guarantee eligibility for every seat: universities and counselling authorities can apply their own valid admission, domicile, reservation and document-verification rules.
  • Foreign-national treatment is regulated separately; applicants should use the current NTA bulletin and the relevant NCISM/NCH and counselling instructions rather than relying on domestic-candidate guidance.

Application, test and counselling sequence

In the 2025 cycle, NTA used an online-only application process: create registration using the candidate’s own email address and mobile number, complete the application, upload the required scanned image files, pay online, and retain the confirmation page. The bulletin instructed candidates to submit only one application and said that the confirmation page is generated after successful payment. These mechanics and document specifications are cycle-specific, so applicants should wait for and follow the current-year bulletin.

After NTA declares the result and All India Rank, counselling is separate. AACCC handles its notified PG seats, including AIQ seats in government/government-aided institutions and 100% PG seats in specified central/national and deemed-university categories; State/UT authorities handle their respective quota seats. Candidates need to register separately for the relevant counselling and follow its choice filling, fee, reporting and document-verification rules.

  • For context only, the 2025 NTA application fee was ₹2,700 for General (UR), ₹2,450 for General-EWS/OBC-NCL, and ₹1,800 for SC/ST/PwD and Third Gender, plus applicable processing charges/GST. Do not treat these past fees as a current fee schedule.
  • At counselling, keep original degree/provisional documents, registration evidence, internship-completion documentation, category/PwD documentation where applicable, and any documents specified in the current counselling bulletin.

Practical preparation approach

Build revision around the official graduate-level regulations for your own discipline, because NTA ties the syllabus to NCISM/NCH graduate education regulations. Pair subject revision with timed CBT practice that reflects the latest confirmed structure; the 2025 structure allowed roughly one minute per question and included negative marking, making accuracy and question selection important as well as recall.

Use official notices after the exam as part of the process: in 2025, NTA displayed provisional answer keys and recorded responses and allowed challenges through its stated online process. Retain the admit-card, application and result records, then shift attention promptly to the appropriate AACCC and/or State/UT counselling notices rather than assuming the NTA result creates a seat automatically.

  • Prioritise the prescribed undergraduate knowledge areas before using commercial question banks or coaching material.
  • Take full-length CBT simulations only against the latest official format; replace assumptions when a new bulletin is issued.
  • Check the official NTA AIAPGET page, AACCC PG portal, and the relevant State/UT counselling authority regularly for dated notices.

What qualifying AIAPGET can lead to

A qualifying AIAPGET performance makes a candidate eligible to compete in the applicable counselling process for postgraduate AYUSH seats; allotment depends on merit/rank, choices, seat availability and the relevant eligibility, domicile, reservation and institutional conditions. In the 2025 result release, NTA explicitly stated that AACCC and State/UT authorities use AIAPGET merit alongside these conditions for counselling.

For BAMS graduates, the intended postgraduate outcome is entry to a three-year regulated MD/MS Ayurveda programme. NCISM regulations describe postgraduate Ayurveda education as preparation for specialists, teachers and researchers. For BHMS graduates, the NCH regulations provide for a regular, full-time three-year M.D. (Homoeopathy) programme and list specialisations including Materia Medica, Organon and Philosophy, Repertory and Case Taking, Pharmacy, Practice of Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Community Medicine and Dermatology.

  • An AIAPGET score is an admissions credential, not a professional licence or a guarantee of admission.
  • The 2025 official result release recorded 42,075 test-takers across the four disciplines; competition and qualifying marks vary by discipline and year, so historic cut-offs should be used only as dated context, not targets or promises.
