Quick facts
- Awarding framework
- Diploma in Food Production is an NCHMCT diploma programme offered through affiliated Institutes of Hotel Management and Food Craft Institutes.
- Duration
- The NCHMCT academic page specifies 3 semesters (1.5 years), including a 24-week hotel industrial-training term; IHM Pusa describes the format as one academic year plus six months in industry.
- Baseline eligibility
- For the 2026–27 NCHMCT brochure, the stated requirement is 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board/institution, English as a subject, and 50% aggregate marks; applicants awaiting the qualifying result may apply provisionally, subject to producing proof by 30 September of the admission year.
- Core study areas
- An IHM Pusa teaching outline lists cookery, larder, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, commodities, food costing, computer awareness, and library work.
- NCHM JEE relationship
- NCHM JEE should not be assumed to be the standard entrance route for this diploma: the NTA’s 2025 notice states that NCHM JEE was for admission to the B.Sc. (Hospitality & Hotel Administration) programme, while NCHMCT states that applications for the diploma are invited by individual affiliated IHMs.
Eligibility
For the 2026–27 NCHMCT admission brochure, Diploma in Food Production requires a pass in the 10+2 senior-secondary system, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board/institution, with English as one subject and at least 50% aggregate marks. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination may be admitted provisionally, but must submit proof of passing by 30 September of the admission year. The same brochure states an upper age limit of 25 years as of 1 July of the admission year for this diploma route.
The published requirement is programme-framework guidance; applicants should confirm the current institute notice because document requirements, reservations, intake, and applicable admission conditions are administered by the admitting institute.
- 10+2/equivalent from a recognised board or institution.
- English must have been studied as a subject.
- 50% aggregate marks are specified in the 2026–27 NCHMCT brochure.
- The stated age ceiling is 25 years on 1 July of the admission year.
Duration and industrial training
NCHMCT specifies a three-semester, 1.5-year Diploma in Food Production. Its academic calendar divides the first two terms into teaching and examinations and assigns Semester III to 24 weeks of industrial training in a hotel. NCHMCT’s admission description likewise characterises the course as 36 weeks followed by 24 weeks of industrial training.
At IHM Pusa, the same course is presented as one year plus six months in industry. This is consistent with the NCHMCT three-semester structure, but students should use the calendar issued by their own institute for exact term and training dates.
- Semester I: teaching, break, further teaching, and mid-term examination activities.
- Semester II: teaching, practical examination/preparatory leave, and end-term examinations.
- Semester III: 24 weeks of industrial training in a hotel.
What students study
The programme is a practical food-production specialisation rather than a general hotel-management degree. NCHMCT says that its diploma programmes provide hands-on training in institute kitchens and laboratories, and that Food Production is one of the core food-production operational diplomas.
A published IHM Pusa scheme identifies theory in cookery, larder, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition, commodities, and food costing. Its practical components include cookery and larder, alongside computer awareness and library work. The precise teaching and examination scheme can vary by institute and academic session, so the institute’s current syllabus should govern enrolment decisions.
- Culinary production: cookery and larder.
- Food safety foundation: hygiene and sanitation.
- Menu/input knowledge: nutrition and commodities.
- Operational control: food costing.
- Applied work: kitchen practicals, computer awareness, and library work.
Admission route
Admission is generally institute-led. NCHMCT states that individual affiliated IHMs invite applications through their own advertisements, historically released during June, and select candidates through their own transparent process. For example, IHM Pusa publishes an application-form process involving the form, registration/application fee, upload of scanned documents and receipt, and submission of a hard copy.
The canonical connection to NCHM JEE needs qualification: NTA’s 2025 NCHM JEE notice explicitly identifies the examination as an admission test for the B.Sc. (Hospitality & Hotel Administration) course at NCHMCT-affiliated IHMs, not for this Diploma in Food Production. Applicants should therefore check the chosen IHM or Food Craft Institute’s current diploma notice rather than assume NCHM JEE registration is required.
- Choose an NCHMCT-affiliated IHM or Food Craft Institute that lists Diploma in Food Production.
- Follow that institute’s current application notice, form, fee, document-verification, and selection instructions.
- Do not treat the 2025 NCHM JEE notice as an admission notice for this diploma; it covered B.Sc. HHA admissions.
Fees and other costs
Fees are variable by institute and must be checked against the current institute prospectus. NCHMCT’s 2026–27 brochure states that diploma-course fees differ from institute to institute within an overall NCHMCT ceiling, and that medical, identity-card, student-activity, locker, and hostel charges may be additional where applicable.
As dated 2026–27 context, the brochure’s listed Diploma in Food Production schedule is ₹43,700 for the first half and ₹35,000 for the second half: admission fee ₹1,500, NCHM enrolment and parchment fee ₹1,700, examination fee ₹2,500, tuition ₹35,000 in each half, and caution money ₹3,000 in the first half. This is a published fee illustration, not a universal final bill; the admitting institute’s current notice controls.
- 2026–27 published first-half total: ₹43,700.
- 2026–27 published second-half total: ₹35,000.
- Hostel and several institute-level charges may be extra.
- Verify fee, refund rules, payment schedule, and any category-specific provisions directly with the admitting institute.
Career and further-study options
For immediate kitchen employment, IHM Pusa identifies chef, line-cook, and kitchen-assistant roles as possible career directions after the programme. These are role examples, not a placement or salary guarantee; hiring depends on the employer, location, experience, practical performance, and current labour market.
For further study or adjacent specialisation, NCHMCT separately lists the three-year B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration and Diploma in Bakery & Confectionery among its programmes. Entry to a later programme is not automatic on the basis of this diploma: applicants must meet that programme’s published eligibility and admission process. In particular, the NTA’s 2025 notice describes NCHM JEE as the entrance examination for the B.Sc. HHA course.
- Kitchen pathway examples: chef, line cook, and kitchen assistant.
- Related NCHMCT study options include B.Sc. in Hospitality and Hotel Administration and Diploma in Bakery & Confectionery.
- A new programme application should be assessed under that programme’s own eligibility and admission rules.
