A B.Sc. in Interior Design is not governed by one single national admission rule. Published institutional criteria show the usual baseline is a pass in 10+2 / Class 12 or an equivalent examination. Sandip University lists 10+2 in any discipline with at least 45% for general/open-category applicants and 40% for reserved-category applicants, with a Class 10 plus diploma route also listed. Thakur College of Science & Commerce similarly lists Class 12 or an equivalent qualification and states that it accepts applicants from any stream.

Applicants should treat the programme page, prospectus and admission notice for their chosen campus and intake year as controlling. They should check minimum marks, accepted boards, category concessions, portfolio or interview requirements, document requirements, and whether a diploma/lateral-entry route is available before applying.

• Class 12 stream: may be open to Arts, Commerce and Science students, but confirm the provider’s rule.

The degree title alone does not guarantee the same duration everywhere. Thakur College lists B.Sc./B.Sc. (Hons.) Interior Design as “3 Years / 4 Years,” and other providers advertise four-year B.Sc. pathways. This variation is consistent with the UGC’s undergraduate curriculum framework, which supports flexible, multidisciplinary undergraduate structures and multiple entry/exit options. Confirm the exit award, honours/research option, credits and total duration in the specific university regulations.

• Do not assume that a B.Sc. label has the same duration, credits or exit options across institutions.

Interior-design study is broader than decoration. Published programme content combines the creative work of conceiving spaces with technical knowledge needed to communicate and execute a project. AAFT’s B.Sc. outline includes basic design and visual arts, history of interiors, building materials and construction technology, residential and commercial space design, furniture design, execution drawings, estimating and costing, building services and sustainable interiors.

Digital visualisation and professional practice are recurring components. The same outline names AutoCAD, SketchUp, 3ds Max and Photoshop, while REVA describes design studios, core courses, electives, industry training and a final thesis/project, plus professional training under practising architects. Course names, software and the amount of internship/studio work differ by university, so candidates should obtain the current semester-wise syllabus rather than rely on a generic list.

• Technical development: materials, construction, furniture, lighting, building services, working/execution drawings and costing.

The two named parent examinations should be interpreted carefully. NATA is specifically a qualifying aptitude test for first-year admission to the five-year B.Arch. programme under the Council of Architecture framework, not a universal B.Sc. Interior Design test. Likewise, NIFTEE is the entrance examination for NIFT’s own programmes, including B.Des.; NIFT’s 2026 prospectus lists Fashion Interiors as a B.Des. specialisation, not a B.Sc. Interior Design degree. A NATA or NIFTEE score should only be submitted where the chosen institution expressly asks for it.

Interior Design. These are provider-published figures available as of the review date, not a market average or a prediction of what another college will charge.

When comparing offers, separate tuition/academic fees from admission or prospectus fees, examination/library/lab charges, deposits, software or material costs, accommodation, transport and other living costs. Ask for the official itemised fee notice for the exact academic session and confirm refund, scholarship and instalment conditions in writing.

For postgraduate design study, CEED is one route to M.Des. admissions at participating design institutes. CEED 2026 permitted candidates with a degree, diploma or postgraduate programme of at least three years after 10+2, but qualifying CEED did not itself guarantee admission: institutes could impose their own eligibility checks, tests and interviews. Candidates considering an M.Des should check the precise discipline and eligibility at each target institute.

An MBA is another possible transition because management programmes admit graduates from different disciplines. For example, IIM Ahmedabad’s two-year MBA/PGP admission process uses CAT for domestic applicants and evaluates eligible applicants through its own selection process; its published pages describe students from arts, commerce, science and professional streams. CAT, CEED and postgraduate programme deadlines, eligibility and selection rules are revised by the relevant authorities and should be checked for the intended admission cycle.
