B.Plan (Bachelor of Planning)

For the 2026 NIT+ admission framework, a candidate using the JEE (Main) Paper 2B rank must have passed the Class XII/equivalent qualifying examination with Mathematics and four additional subjects. The NTA bulletin also records a B.Plan benchmark of at least 50% marks in Mathematics and 50% aggregate in the qualifying examination. These are admission-context requirements rather than a substitute for the conditions published by the individual institute or counselling authority.

JEE (Main) examination eligibility is not identical to final admission eligibility. NTA explicitly directs candidates to the JoSAA/CSAB rules for NIT+ admissions and notes that authorities may modify eligibility, allocation rules and procedures. Check the current institute prospectus, reservation rules and counselling instructions before applying.

Do not assume that NATA, JEE Advanced or a particular state examination is interchangeable with JEE (Main) Paper 2B for B.Plan. NATA's 2026 brochure is expressly for B.Arch; JoSAA identifies JEE (Main) Paper IIB as the qualifying examination for B.Planning in the NIT+ system.

• For JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 2B: Class XII/equivalent passed in 2024 or 2025, or appearing in 2026, was the examination-eligibility window stated by NTA.
• For final B.Plan admission: verify qualifying-subject requirements, marks, category documentation, domicile/reservation rules and any institute-level restrictions.
• For non-JoSAA colleges: use the institution's own admission notice; state/private university processes may differ.

B.Plan is commonly delivered as a four-year undergraduate programme. SPA New Delhi describes its B.Plan as eight semesters, combining studios, field-based exercises, theory courses, internships and independent research in the final semester. Actual credit totals, internship timing, exit options and assessment rules depend on the university's current curriculum and ordinances.

• Some institutions also offer an integrated B.Plan–M.Plan option; this is distinct from the standalone four-year B.Plan.

A planning degree is not simply an architecture degree without a drawing test. SPA New Delhi describes B.Plan learning as analysis of physical, social, economic and political aspects of settlements and their interrelationships. Its students prepare layout, zonal, master, regional and functional plans, supported by data collection, analysis, interpretation and mapping.

The curriculum is studio-led and multidisciplinary. In the SPA example, students develop planning principles and tools alongside fieldwork, communication, teamwork and problem-solving. Institutions can organise courses differently, so applicants should read the current semester-wise syllabus rather than rely on a generic subject list.

For the national NIT+ route in 2026, take JEE (Main) Paper 2B (B.Planning), then participate in the relevant seat-allocation process if eligible. JoSAA lists JEE (Main) 2026 B.Planning among its qualifying examinations and manages admissions for the NIT+ system through a single platform; a qualifying score does not itself guarantee a seat.

JEE (Main) Paper 2B is a three-hour computer-based test. For 2026 it comprised Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and Planning-Based Questions, with 100 questions and 400 total marks. This is materially different from Paper 2A (B.Arch), which includes a drawing test.

SPA New Delhi states that its B.Plan admissions are made through JEE, subject to eligibility and reservation. Other providers may use JEE Main ranks, state counselling or their own published process. Treat application dates, seat matrices, opening/closing ranks and fees as cycle-specific information, not permanent thresholds.

• Select Paper 2B specifically when the target programme is B.Planning.
• Keep Class X/XII records, category/EWS/PwD documentation and other counselling documents current.
• Use official NTA, JoSAA/CSAB and institute notices for the relevant admission year.

Fees vary substantially by institution, category, hostel choice, scholarship status and academic year. As a dated public-institution example only, SPA New Delhi's revised 2024–25 undergraduate fee notice for B.Arch and B.Plan students in the second, fourth, sixth and eighth semesters listed ₹47,600 for students other than SC/ST and ₹27,600 for SC/ST students. The listed components were tuition, academic support and student-activity fees.

That notice should not be treated as a four-year cost, a first-semester quote, a hostel/living-cost estimate or a current 2026–27 fee schedule. Obtain the current fee notice from each shortlisted institute and separately budget for accommodation, software/equipment, travel, studio materials and examination/counselling charges where applicable.

• JEE (Main) 2026 Paper 2B application fees were separately prescribed by NTA and varied by candidate category, gender and test-centre location.
• Always distinguish entrance-exam fees from tuition and living costs.

A common academic progression is M.Plan. SPA New Delhi offers M.Plan specialisations including Environmental Planning, Housing, Regional Planning, Transport Planning and Urban Planning, and it also gives B.Plan entrants an option to enter an integrated B.Plan–M.Plan programme under its own rules.

For postgraduate entrance preparation, GATE 2026 includes Architecture and Planning (AR). In the AR paper, candidates choose either the Architecture or Planning optional section; the Planning option is directly relevant for many planning-focused postgraduate pathways, but every admitting department sets its own eligibility and score requirements.

B.Plan graduates can pursue roles across public, private and third-sector organisations. SPA New Delhi identifies work areas including urban and regional planning, housing, transportation and design. Job titles such as Urban Planner, GIS Analyst or Assistant Town Planner are employer- and recruitment-rule-specific, so candidates should match their skills, software portfolio and any required experience to the particular vacancy.
