Student Membership of the Institute of Actuaries of India

This node covers the ACET admission route. The IAI Examination and Certificate of Practice Regulations state that a person who has passed 10+2 or an equivalent examination and cleared the IAI’s Actuarial Common Entrance Test (ACET) is entitled to admission as a student member, subject to making the prescribed application and providing evidence of eligibility.

ACET is designed for people seeking IAI student membership and access to actuarial examinations. IAI says the ACET result must be used for student-membership admission within three years of the exam-result declaration.

IAI also maintains separate direct/non-ACET entry criteria for specified qualifications. Those alternatives are outside this ACET-parented node and should be checked on IAI’s admissions page if applicable.

IAI’s ACET student-membership instructions describe an online process: open the Student Membership Form for ACET-pass candidates, enter the ACET candidate ID and date of birth, receive and enter a one-time password sent to the ACET-registered email address, complete the registration form, upload self-attested document copies, and make the online fee payment. IAI then communicates the document-review status and, if approved, the membership approval by email.

The current IAI admissions material links the ACET route to its member-admission portal. Because the portal and documentation requirements can change, candidates should follow the live form and IAI instructions rather than relying on historic screenshots or third-party guidance.

• Complete admission while the ACET result is still within its three-year membership-admission validity.

IAI does not present Student Membership as a fixed-length course. The time to progress depends on examination attempts, exemptions where applicable, and progression through the education requirements. The key entry deadline is that ACET remains valid for student-membership admission for three years after the result is declared.

Membership is maintained on an annual cycle. IAI states that members renew annually and publishes the student subscription as an annual fee; its membership page identifies the membership year as 1 April to 31 March. Applicants should verify the applicable renewal date and status rules in the current year because operational deadlines may change.

Student Membership enables participation in IAI’s actuarial examination pathway. Under IAI’s Education Policy 2026, the Core Education Program is the pathway to Associate (AIAI) and Fellow (FIAI) qualifications. Associate qualification requires passes or exemptions in 10 subjects: seven Core Principles subjects and three Core Practices subjects.

The Core Principles subjects are CS1 Actuarial Statistics, CS2 Risk Modelling and Survival Analysis, CM1 Actuarial Mathematics for Modelling, CM2 Economic Modelling, CB1 Business Finance, CB2 Business Economics, and CB3 Business Management. IAI identifies Core Practices as CP1 Actuarial Practice, CP2 Modelling Practice, and CP3 Communications Practice.

IAI’s current FAQ says there is no prescribed order for sitting examinations, though it notes subject knowledge dependencies—for example, CS2 assumes CS1 knowledge, and CM2 assumes CS1, CS2, CM1 and CB2. Examination format, timetables and policy arrangements can change, so students should use the IAI’s current examination guidance for each sitting.

• Core Principles: CS1, CS2, CM1, CM2, CB1, CB2 and CB3.

• The curriculum is an examination/professional-education pathway, not a standalone academic degree.

As displayed on IAI’s membership-fee page when reviewed, the annual fee for Student Members is INR 2,000. IAI notes that membership-related fees may be subject to its stated terms, and fees can be revised; applicants should treat this as dated published context rather than a guaranteed future price.

IAI separately publishes examination-entry fees. Its current table lists Core Principles fees of INR 5,000 each for CS1, CS2, CM1 and CM2, and INR 3,000 each for CB1, CB2 and CB3; Core Practices are listed at INR 8,000 for CP1, INR 10,000 for CP2 and INR 8,000 for CP3. These are examination charges, not the annual membership subscription.

For eligible students, IAI’s Student Support Scheme describes possible support for annual membership subscription, study material, examination fees and Institute coaching/counselling, subject to the scheme’s eligibility and continuing conditions.

The next formal membership milestone is Associate (AIAI). IAI states that a Student Member who has passed or been exempted from all Core Principles and Core Practices subjects may apply to become an Associate; IAI’s Education Policy 2026 describes this requirement as 10 subjects.

The longer route is Fellow (FIAI). IAI states that Fellowship requires completion of the examinations—currently 13 subjects—plus successful completion of the India Fellowship Seminar and at least three years of actuarial experience. The precise examination set, transition rules, exemption policy and professional requirements should be verified against the current IAI policy when the student approaches those milestones.

Student members may also seek IAI-approved exemptions after enrollment where they have eligible mapped education or credits; IAI’s accreditation guidance says the student must first obtain IAI Student Membership and then apply through the member login.

• Associate: apply after completing/exempting the 10 Core Principles and Core Practices subjects.
• Fellow: complete the full examination requirement plus the India Fellowship Seminar and minimum actuarial-experience requirement.
• Exemptions: potentially available after Student Membership, but only under IAI’s applicable mapping and exemption rules.
