In the documented 2020 SAI–SRIHER Certificate Course in Sports Physiotherapy, applicants needed either an MPT in Orthopaedics or Sports, or a BPT with three years of experience in a sports institution, sports team, or sports club. This should be treated as a historical, programme-specific benchmark rather than a standing rule for every sports-physiotherapy certificate in India.

For a separate SAI sports-physiotherapy internship pathway, the published eligibility includes BPT/MPT students who have passed final-year examinations from an IAP-recognised university, with a parent-college certificate; postgraduate students may also be permitted for thesis or fieldwork subject to permissions. Applicants should distinguish a clinical-training internship from a certificate course before applying.

• Confirm that the provider accepts the applicant's BPT/MPT qualification and any required internship or work experience.
• Check the current admission notice for institution-specific requirements, because the cited certificate admission criteria were issued for the 2020–21 cycle.
• Where a programme involves athlete-facing clinical work, verify the applicable institutional and state-level practice, registration, supervision, and employer requirements.

The official SAI NSNIS Patiala page records that the SAI–SRIHER sports-science certificate courses, including Sports Physiotherapy, were six months long. The related 2020 government press release described delivery as online, with a two-week physical workshop planned as part of the course.

Duration is not uniform across sports-physiotherapy upskilling routes. For comparison, SAI's sports-physiotherapy internship notice provides practical placements of 4–8 weeks or 12–24 weeks; these placements provide exposure and are not substitutes for the six-month certificate award.

The intended subject coverage is applied sports physiotherapy: athlete and sport-specific assessment, injury understanding, rehabilitation and exercise-protocol design, monitoring, and injury-prevention strategy. These areas are explicitly listed as SAI learning outcomes for sports-physiotherapy practical training and closely describe the capabilities a credible sports-physiotherapy certification should develop.

The earlier SAI–SRIHER announcement stated that the six-month sports-physiotherapy course would cover important aspects of sports physiotherapy. Because detailed syllabi, clinical hours, assessment methods, and return-to-sport criteria can vary materially between providers, applicants should obtain the current prospectus and ask whether supervised practical exposure and competency assessment are included.

The 2020 SAI–SRIHER admission circular provides an example of how a selective sports-physiotherapy certificate intake may work: candidates submitted an application and documents, eligible applicants were called for an English-language objective online entrance test, and selection was based on merit. The notice specified 50% as the minimum qualifying mark and stated that educational and experience documents would be scrutinised.

That process belongs to a past admission cycle and should not be read as an open or current intake. Before spending on an application, obtain the latest official notice directly from the issuing institution, confirm the award title and delivery mode, and retain written confirmation of eligibility.

• Review the current official notification rather than relying on prior-year criteria.
• Prepare degree records, experience certificates where required, identity documents, and any provider-specified supporting materials.
• Confirm whether entrance testing, an interview, document verification, or clinical-placement requirements apply.

A certificate can be paired with supervised sports-science exposure. SAI's current published internship framework includes a Sports Physiotherapy stream with outcomes in assessment, rehabilitation planning, and injury prevention, offering a possible way for eligible BPT/MPT students to build applied experience.

For deeper academic specialisation, an MPT in Sports is a separate postgraduate degree route. For example, Jamia Millia Islamia lists an MPT Sports specialisation with a two-year, four-semester structure. Admission to an MPT is governed by the university's own current rules and is not guaranteed by completion of a short certificate.

• Apply for relevant supervised sports-science internships where eligibility is met.
